Birch Lake Campground is located in the Kawishiwi Ranger District of the Superior National Forest approximately 13 miles outside of Ely in northern Minnesota and near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. It is an ideal place to relax while enjoying fishing and other recreational activities.
Birch Lake Campground is located in the Kawishiwi Ranger District of the Superior National Forest approximately 13 miles outside of Ely in northern Minnesota and near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. It is an ideal place to relax while enjoying fishing and other recreational activities. The campground features 29 shaded campsites (each with a picnic table, fire grate, and tent pad), a boat landing, vault toilets and a hand pump for drinking water. Some campsites may be reserved, while others are for drop-in campers only. Birch Lake can accommodate large boats and has a MNDNR public water access ramp to facilitate launching. Birch Lake has no horsepower limitations in effect. Firewood is available for purchase, and with at least one day's notice, canoes can be rented for $20 per day. Birch Lake Campground is a National Forest Campground operated by the Ely Area Campground Concessionaires. This campground may be open through October, depending upon weather. The operating season starts May 5 and concludes September 30.
